Hi, I’m Suzanne Phoenix (she/her) and I’m a queer Naarm/Melbourne-based photographer, artist and self-publisher. I’m endlessly curious about people and places. For over a decade I’ve been creating portraits and capturing our events, live music and performance scenes along with documentary and street photography and daily life.
I’m honoured to have been acknowledged in a number of National industry awards including winning the Upper Yarra Visage Portrait Award and being shortlisted in the National Photographic Portrait Prize, the Martin Kantor Portrait Prize, the APA and the Geelong Photographic Portrait Prize.
I’ve self published over a dozen books and zines, including collaborations with large community groups such as artists and an annual project for International Women’s Day since 2012.
Providing visibility and representation of our diverse communities is important in my work. Alongside my photography practice, my career in not for profits and local government also always has people and community at it's core through innovative, place based projects. See my linkedin profile here.
As a freelance photographer I am available for portraits, events, festivals, live music and performance, and documentary photography. I provide many offerings for organisations and businesses, Photo Banks, Photo Walks and workshops in photography, photobooks and collage. I am always keen to discuss commissions and collaborations. You can see some of the extensive list of people I have worked with here. Please just get in touch to chat more via the contact form or email me here.
Cheers, Suzanne
