Workshop: Make That Photobook - Saturday 23 August 2025

A$275.00

Do you have a photographic body of work or a project that you would love to put into a photobook? Are you not sure where to start? What the options and frameworks are? Do you just need to sit with likeminded people, discuss and plan the first and next steps?

This workshop is a chance to focus on your photobook idea, image curation and sequencing of your project. It will also cover text and image use, format and paper, design, options for publishing and distribution and the opportunity for questions and discussion in the small group. Photobooks will not be created in the workshop but you can walk out with a plan to make it a reality.

Suzanne Phoenix has self published over a dozen photo books and zines that have been acquired in National Library of Australia, State Library Victoria, National Portrait Gallery and Australian Queer Archives. Suzanne is one of the founding members of Melbourne Photobook Collective and a regular in the NGV Melbourne Art Book Fair, Ballarat Foto Biennale and also the PHOTO photobook events, talks and workshops. Suzanne has delivered many photography and photobook workshops and has a hands-on, participatory approach.

This workshop will run for 5 hours, from 10.30am to 3.30pm with very limited numbers. It will take place in Melbourne, location TBC (Melbourne Northside).

Before the workshop, participants will receive further information, including what to bring along on the day.

You can also book a subsequent ‘Hour of Creative Power’ with Suzanne after this workshop as a follow up to look at the progress of your photobook and next steps. There is a discounted rate for those who have booked or completed a photobook workshop with Suzanne, a code will be sent to you upon booking into this workshop.

Please let Suzanne know if you have any accessibility requirements.

From past participants:

“ I took part in a small and intimate zine workshop with Suzanne and found it a positive and useful experience. Suzanne has an experienced and creative eye. Her comments were constructive and insightful. She encouraged the group to work collectively and everyone had the opportunity to share and critique each others work. She set me on a new path and I came away with new ideas on how to approach preparing to make a zine of my own work. “ - Jane

“ I thoroughly enjoyed Suzanne’s photobook workshop. The thing I enjoyed the most was learning to sequence images objectively rather than emotionally. I’m currently working on a zine that is looking pretty good! “ - Renata

" Suzanne is a friendly & patient teacher. She helps you think from a different perspective which is so valuable. " - Mariana

“ Suzanne brings her years of experience as a photographer and photo book self-publisher to her workshops. She has wisdom that she shares and she inspires creativity in the participants. She provides opportunities for attendees to talk about the aims of their photo books and to present their collection of photos, whilst ensuring that the aims of the workshop are met. “ - Maz

“ Suzanne is passionate in imparting her knowledge and experience in putting together a photobook. The class is very well run, informative and allows for participants to contribute freely. “ - Mauro
